Site Review: CoinTube (3 updates)

Update 3, 05/03/2013: CoinTube doesn't pay you anymore to watch videos. Forget this site. Or visit it and check yourself that it doesn't work.

Who wouldn't love to be paid for watching YouTube videos? With CoinTube, it is possible:

How It Works:

  • CoinTube gives you free bitcoins after you input your Bitcoin address, solve a verbal captcha and watch a YouTube video.
  • You'll receive from 50µ฿ to 200µ฿ every time you do this.
  • When your video ends, you may enter a new verbal captcha and watch a new video as long as CoinTube allows you. If there are no more videos for you to watch, it will tell you to try again later.
  • Your payments are almost instantaneous. Once you've watched a video, you receive your bitcoins, sometimes even before the video ends. However, the site doesn't seem to pay you for every single video you watch. Or maybe, when you receive 100µ฿ or 200µ฿ it could be that the site aggregates your payments.

Write Bitcoin address, solve captcha, press Start Watching!

Best Strategy:

  • Create a new Bitcoin address only to receive bitcoins from CoinTube. This way you can assure yourself that they are actually paying you.
  • Bookmark the site and have your Bitcoin address easily accesible.
  • When you get up, visit the site, paste your Bitcoin address, solve the captcha and start watching videos. Since there's no possibility to know whether there are new videos to watch, do this several times during the day. I personally do it when I get up, after lunch and right before going to sleep.
  • When the site presents you a video to watch, click on the Play button and inmediately solve the captcha below, but don't send it yet. When the video ends, click on "Change Channel".
  • Reload the captcha if it has difficult to read letters, such as capital "i" or non-capital "L".
  • You don't really have to watch the videos. You could have them playing on the background with the sound off. However, some are interesting, so give them a chance.

Here you can see some moments of the day when there were videos ready for me

Site Review:

  • Expected profit: 3/5 2/5 1/5. You'll earn between 50µ฿ and 200µ฿ per video and between 250µ฿ and 500µ฿ per day. Update 1, 18/02/2013: Suddenly they seem to pay just when you watch the videos What is Bitcoin? and their own promotional video starring the Weird CoinTube Woman. That's 200µ฿ per day. Boo. Update 2, 24/02/2013: Now they pay 20µ฿ for those two videos. What a bunch of liers...
  • Convenience: 3/5. You have to input your Bitcoin address and solve a captcha first and then watch a video and solve a captcha as long as the web sends videos your way. Some videos are just one minute long, but sometimes you get boring ones which last up to 15 minutes.
  • Payment speed: 5/5. The bitcoins will reach your digital wallet as soon as your video ends, or faster.
  • Risk: 0/5. None. You get free bitcoins for watching videos.
  • Final Score: 7/10 4/10 1/10. On CoinTube, you spend some time watching videos to earn some bitcoins. On average, the videos last around six minutes and the total amount of bitcoins you get will be around 350µ฿. Not fast, not much, but still not bad, compared to other sites. Update 1, 18/02/2013: Three points less for not paying for every video you see, which is what they should do. And what they used to do. Update 2, 24/02/2013: Three points less for reducing to 10µ฿ what they pay for watching the two Bitcoin videos. You can't say this website pays you to watch videos anymore. I think that since they have become so well known, they've decided to stop paying and begin making a ton of money from people who still think they pay. Update 3, 05/03/2013: CoinTube doesn't pay you anymore for watching videos. Now they don't even show you the two videos mentioned above. I'll keep the 1/10 because it was a good idea while it lasted.
