Cryptocoin Information

When I entered the world of cryptocurrencies it was really difficult for me to find information about all the existing cryptocoins. All the data I found was incomplete or very disseminated around the Internet. I wish some place existed where I could clearly see all I needed to know about each new coin I found.

Today you can find some lists with some random information about some random number of cryptocoins, but it's still impossible to find a comprehensive list of the features of every cryptocurrency released.

At the beginning, it was also a headache to set up your computer for mining these coins. Not even the few tutorials you could find helped that much, since they became obsolete pretty fast: mining programs changed, mining difficulty changed, ASICs and other mining hardware appeared, new algorithms were created...

Today, it's easier than before, but still not trivial for somebody who doesn't know anything about cryptocurrencies to mine coins with their computer.

That's why a few days ago I decided to create that sort of place where all you need to know about each cryptocoin is included on a report, as well as a simple method to begin mining each coin as fast as possible. That place is:

I hope those of you who are new to this world find useful this new blog I've created. Bookmark it for future reference!

Hey Guys, I'm Still Around!

Just a quick note: I might not write much during the next days (maybe even not the "Bitcoin News Of The Day"!). My goal was to write something about Bitcoin every day for as long as possible, but my life circumstances right now don't allow me to do so.

It is said most blogs die within a couple of months after creation, but this is not the case, OK!? I'll be back as soon as possible!

ASICs are coming!

If you have ever mined bitcoins, it's very likely certain that you used either your CPU or your GPU. GPUs have a hashing power (mining speed) about a hundred times that of CPUs. "Serious" miners nowadays use their GPU to mine for this reason. "CPU mining is extremely slow and doesn't deserve your time", they'll tell you if you raise the possibility. But now a new kind of hardware is challenging the hashing speeds of the best graphic cards: Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) designed exclusively with one goal in mind: mining bitcoins as fast as possible!

Site Review: CoinURL

In addition to the many websites that give you bitcoins for free or for doing very simple tasks, there are other ways to earn bitcoins without too much hassle. For example, by advertising other webs through CoinURL, which you can consider a mix between Google AdSense and AdF.ly for the bitcoin world. You won't even need your own website to earn bitcoins with CoinURL! Let's have a look at how all of this works:

Websites That Do Not Give Free Bitcoins (III)

Yes, after issues one and two, it's time for another round of websites that do not give free bitcoins. Maybe they once gave but now don't. Or perhaps they were a scam from the beginning. Either way, here are my last findings. If you see these sites linked, don't lose your time: ignore them!

Don't let these sites fool you!

Hmmm... Poll Time! (1 update)

Three days ago I went to sleep and 1฿ = $34. When I woke up the next day it was $35.

Two days ago I went to sleep and 1฿ = $36. When I woke up the next day it was $40.

Yesterday I went to sleep with 1฿ = $40. This morning it was $46.

I guess we can expect 1฿ = $50 tomorrow, or during the next few hours... I'd like to hear your opinion about the future, oh beloved reader! How much will one bitcoin be worth at the end of this month?

Is this our future?

This is a site that I found just yesterday, lurking around the Bitcoin Reddit (which you should visit from time to time). It's very similar to BTC For Me (reviewed here): you send a tweet and receive free bitcoins. Let's see the details of BitSprinkle:

Update 2, 04/03/2013: Ten hours have passed and now it's back. Nobody knows what happened.

Update 3, 05/03/2013: It's broken again. I'll consider it fixed after it's up during three days in a row.

Yes, you are reading correctly. Since yesterday, CoinAd visitors who use the chat option are receiving bitcoins for doing so! Do you think it's too good to be true? Well, then look at this screenshot:

Month In Review: February 2013

Hi! This is Marcus Wilson, The Bitcoin Master's butler! I'm not as good as him reviewing stuff, but I'll make my best every last day of each month to cast an eye on what he had to say about the world of Bitcoin. Let's see what we have for February 2013, the very first month he decided to share his wisdom with the rest of us mortals...

But first, let me serve dinner to The Master...

Did Earn Free Bitcoins And GOXKEYGEN Stop Working? (2 updates)

During the last couple of days I haven't been able to get my daily dose of free bitcoins at the websites Earn Free Bitcoins and GOXKEYGEN. Are you having a similar problem? I wouldn't like to add these sites to my list of places that don't give out free bitcoins anymore...

Will they be back soon?

Update 2, 11/03/2013: CoinVisitor works again...

There are several webs focused on the Bitcoin world that contain a lot of interesting information about the state of the Bitcoin network, the contents of the blockchain and other stuff. Let's check out seven of them today:

Beware Of These Scams!

There are websites that claim to give you free Bitcoins and then don't do it. That's pretty bad; they should stop being online until they work correctly or be forever removed from the Internet. But there's something far worse, and those are the sites that don't only scam you, but actively try to steal your Bitcoins from you. During the past days I've found three examples. Ignore them if you ever stumble upon them!

All your Bitcoins are belong to me!

Since all the following websites seem to have been made by the same person (pictured above), let's give him a name... For example, "Mr. Thief". Before we explore them, let me take my hat...

... My magnifying glass...

... And a nice smoking pipe.

Now we are ready to investigate these scams!

I'm ready!

Site Review: CoinTicket

CoinTicket is a bitcoin shop. Which sells... Bitcoins... That cost... Nothing. However, you need to get tickets to "buy" the bitcoins. When you visit this shop, you get a certain amount of tickets for free, but if you don't consider enough the amount you received, you can return later and try to get more... Or something like that. If all of this seems too difficult to understand, don't worry, I'll break it down for you: it's just another bitcoin faucet.

Websites That Do Not Give Free Bitcoins (II) (3 updates)

Almost a week ago I wrote about some websites that used to give you free bitcoins and don't actually give you anything but ads for your viewing pleasure. Today I'm continuing that post with some more sites I've found which follow a similar philosophy. The list of terror gets extended today so as you can ignore these sites as soon as you spot a link to them on one of the several websites that don't update their information often:

Forget about these... Websites?

Site Review: Earn Free Bitcoins (4 updates)

I should have reviewed this site sooner, since it's one of the best sites to get free bitcoins and possibly the one that works the best. It's also got a couple of extras that make it really integrated as a website into the bitcoin world. Let's check out Earn Free Bitcoins today:

Site Review: BTC For Me (1 update)

Update 1, 31/03/2013: It seems the owner of the site sold the domain to a sex toys shop. Forget about getting free bitcoins here.

As you can see if you surf a bit around this blog, there are several websites that give you free bitcoins every certain amount of time after you make a simple action (solve a captcha, watch a video, visit a website...). There are also sites that give you bitcoins once, and that's it. You shouldn't miss these either! Every little helps in your quest to become Scrooge McBitcoin. Let's check out one of them, called BTC For Me:

Friday, February 15, 2013

Site Review: Bitcoin Faucet (5 updates)

Update 5, 10/04/2013: This site has been closed. No more free Bitcoins. Move on.

Update 2, 04/03/2013: This site is not giving me any bitcoins lately, because it thinks I'm using a proxy or blocking ads, which is not true. If they don't fix their bad detection system soon I'll remove it from the list of websites that give free bitcoins.

Update 3, 05/03/2013: It's working correctly again.

Update 4, 10/03/2013: I've had the same problem as in Update 2 for two days. Three days more and I'll remove it from the list!

What is this? Another website with a faucet spitting free bitcoins instead of water? That's correct! Who would have known, having such a weird name as "Bitcoin Faucet"?... Meh, forget the unoriginal name. You are going to visit the site that gives the biggest amount of free bitcoins of the world. Let's see what it looks like!:

Thursday, February 14, 2013

Site Review: GOXKEYGEN (3 updates)

Update 1, 25/02/2013: Did this web stop working??? If it doesn't continue giving out codes in three days I'll have to add it to my list of websites that don't give out free bitcoins anymore...

Update 2, 28/02/2013: It seems this website died. No more codes for us.

Update 3, 01/03/2013: I removed it from the list. Rest In Peace.

Now that you have an account at the Mt.Gox exchange, there's a little web where you can get a code to add a few free bitcoins to this account called GOXKEYGEN:

Site Review: Mt.Gox

After setting up your digital wallet, mining a bit and gambling away your first free bitcoins, you are ready to enter a Bitcoin exchange and buy a couple of shiny coins with real world currency. With them you'll be able to speculate, gamble more or "expend them on tons of products and services", as the Weird Hippie CoinTube Woman says. There are several Bitcoin exchanges around, but the largest is Mt.Gox:

Websites That Do Not Give Free Bitcoins (3 updates)

When you look for places around the web to get your first free bitcoins, you just cannot avoid to end up in websites which aren't working anymore. They might have given in the past free bitcoins to their visitors and that's what made them get linked on other webs and blogs dedicated to the bitcoin world. But now it's really frustrating going into one of these websites and leaving with empty pockets, sometimes after filling several captchas and exploring the site in search of the free bitcoins. It's also quite amusing to see that even though they don't do their job anymore, most of these webs are still covered with ads. So they get visited, without having content or giving you anything, and get advertising money. That's outrageous, so I'm putting here a partial list of these infernal HTML spawns, so as you can dismiss them inmediately as soon as you see them linked:

These websites suck!

Site Review: Bitcoiner (2 updates)

Centuries ago, when Bitcoins were born (in 2009 [hey, we are on the Internet!]), one of the ways their first users tried to lure other people into adopting this innovative virtual currency was through "faucets". Basically, these were websites that sent small amounts of bitcoins for free to the bitcoin addresses you wished once or every certain amount of time. Today, it is still considered a way of welcoming new Bitcoin users. One of the best known bitcoin faucets around is Bitcoiner:

How To Join A Mining Pool (CPU Edition)

Update 1, 09/11/2013: Download this Bitcoin Mining Package I prepared, read the README.txt inside and then read this tutorial. (Note: browsers and antivirus software consider miner programs are malware, so you might get a warning. Ignore it!)

Have you got your digital wallet set up? Nice! Have you collected your first bitcoins from some of these websites? Great! Then I guess your next logical step is to get a first taste of Bitcoin Mining!

Getting Into Bitcoin

You have heard about Bitcoin. Maybe you even know what Bitcoin is and how it works. And now you want to be part of the increasing Bitcoin user base.

Although there are plenty of tutorials and websites that tell you how to get into Bitcoin, none of them warn you about some details that might make you think twice about the method you'll use to do this. Here I'll present you the two options you have with its advantages and drawbacks:

Update 7, 05/03/2013: It's broken again. I'll consider it fixed after it's up during three days in a row.

Another website very much like Daily Bitcoins is CoinAd:
